    Description

This is a unique set of 2009 & 2010 1 oz Australian Koalas from the 2010 Florida United Numismatists(FUN) show in January 2010.  Created specifically for this coin show, there are only 1500 sets like  this in existence.  Each set is numbered and contains two koalas.  The image of the  Koala changes each year and the 2009 has a crinkly silver background while the 2010 version has a frosted silver background.  The card has detailed information about the coins and the Cuddly Koala.  The Koala is an Australian marsupial- a mammal that carries its infant in a pouch.  Docile, sleepy tree-dwellers, koalas have soft grey fur, a round face and prominent ears.  Largely inactive during the day, they feed on the foliage of their favorite eucalyptus during the night.
I had heard that the leaves make the Koalas high but was a little disappointed to find that is a myth.  Koalas don't get high from the leaves of the eucalyptus.  The leaves provide them with their daily requirement of water but contain no alcohol or hallucinogenic substance.  They sleep up to 20 hrs a day because the leaves don't provide that much nourishment.  Another myth is that the Koalas are cuddly and huggable.  They are wild animals and don't like human contact.  They are also not slow.  When startled, they can run up to 33km/hr and move up or down trees in 2km leaps.
So myths aside, the Koala is a wildly popular coin because the Koalas are cute creatures and a great series of coins to collect.  The Perth Mint quality is there and these coins are legal tender in Australia. Each coin is 1 troy ounce of .999 pure silver.
I bought these sets in 2010 and have photographed #937 for this listing.     You will get a different set with serial number between 939 and 950 because the sets are enclosed in cellophane and I removed the cellophane for the photograph.  These coins have been in storage since 2010 and haven't been handled or taken out of their packaging.
