The
American Silver Eagle
carries on its extended history in a new issue, featuring for the first time since its release in 1986 a new reverse design. While being the most popular silver bullion coin in the world, in company with its gold counterpart, the year of 2021 celebrates the 35th anniversary of the program.
With the changes decided by the US Mint, this marks the first time in Silver Eagle history that the coin will have a major design change and two different designs in the same year, since mintage started in early 2021 with the same combination of obverse-reverse from previous issues.

The New 2021 1 oz Silver Eagle Design
The
US Mint
has decided to change the design of both the 2021 Silver Eagle’s reverse and the Gold Eagle’s reverse halfway through 2021. By doing so, this represents the first time in the Silver Eagle Program’s history that the coin will have a major design change, along with having two different designs in the same year.
Silver Eagle Obverse Design
Adolph. A Weinman’s classic depiction of Lady Liberty is featured in the obverse of the 2021 Silver Eagle coin. In her streamlined robes, the goddess Liberty is shown pacing towards a sun that sheds the prominent landforms of the horizon.
Holding an olive branch in her left arm, while reaching forward with her right arm, Lady Liberty is depicted mantled by an American flag which dances with the breeze. To her right, the US motto present on all US coins, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is minted along with the word "LIBERTY," which goes around the top of the coin with spread out characters.
The coin year "2021" marks its presence at the bottom of its obverse, near the feet of Lady Liberty.
Silver Eagle Reverse Design
The new 2021 American Silver Eagle reverse design features designer Emily Damtra’s depiction of a bald eagle - America’s national bird - in its natural state, amidst flight, while enveloping an oak branch between its talons, making its way to somewhere of safety, in the moments before landing.
Around the edge of the coin, the inscription reads “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR”. The national motto, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, is located above the weight of the coin.
