This is a vintage Akha Tribal Belt that consists of Cowrie Shells, Square Coins and Red Glass Beads and comes from the Akha Tribe of Thailand. The wide belts are worn by the young unmarried women, and the young matrons wear narrower belts. This belt is part of the Akha traditional costume and shows status within the society. The belts are elaborately made and each one is unique and one of a kind. This is a beautiful tribal Akha belt that would be a wonderful addition to anyone collection and be worn as well.
I am offering fabulous items from Southeast Asia, Africa, Philippines, Papua New Guinea and the Middle East that I purchased from a private collection. These items were collected in the field 25 years ago.
