Description
This theatrical poster from the 1982 world premiere of the comedy play, Intimate Exchanges, by English playwright Alan Ayckbourn, is, like the play it advertises, quite unique.Physical Details: The frame size is 24¼ L x 17½ W x ¾ D inches.
The colors are vibrant. The frame is a wooden antiqued gold bamboo look with preservation dust cover backing and a heavy duty intertwined wire picture hanger across the back.
Poster Design: The clever artwork of this poster gives a subtle wink and a nod to the play's theme. Look closely and you’ll find couples scattered here and there around the poster.
There’s no artist’s signature or credit (that I see).
Play Synopsis: Intimate Exchanges deals with the consequences of choice and how lives can take very different paths due to seemingly trivial decisions. Featuring only two actors playing ten different roles in eight stories, all originating from a single opening scene. As the play progresses, the characters make choices, each of which causes the story to go in one of two directions, leading to one of 16 possible endings. Depending upon whether or not the character of Celia Teasdale decides to have a cigarette in the first five seconds of the play, several people might get divorced, married, start affairs, have children or die.
Trivia: The world premiere on June 3, 1982 was performed at the Stephen Joseph Theatre-In-The-Round, Scarborough, England. Lavinia Bertram and Robin Herford appeared in the production directed by Alan Ayckbourn himself. It opened in London in 1984 and was nominated for two Olivier Awards: Comedy of the Year and Comedy Performance of the Year for Lavinia Bertram
