c1870 Queen Victoria GREAT SEAL OF THE REALM Wax Seal, Original Cord & Tin 6.25"
Measures around 6-1/4" x 1".  Mid-nineteenth century lacquered tan wax in original japanned tin container.  Obverse reads VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRITANNIARUM REGINA FIDEI DEFENSOR (Victoria, by the grace of God, Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith) encircling an equestrian depiction of the queen with an attendant. Reverse shows Victoria holding her royal attributes while enthroned between two allegorical figures. Seals such as this one were affixed to important documents indicating Royal approval.  Excellent condition for age.
