Description
This auction is for a John D. Shaw print titled "Iwo Jima: A Hard-Won Haven." It features a B-29 Superfortress on final approach to Iwo Jima's runway. Utilizing Iwo Jima's runway was key to the continued assault on mainland Japan. I flew into Iwo Jima several times while flying C-130's out of Japan in the mid-80s and it must have been a welcome sight to crews flying battle-damaged aircraft. This print is from the main edition, # 412 of the first 500, which were signed by the artist and 13 veterans of Iwo Jima. The remaining 1275 prints were signed by the artist only. The print measures 37" x 23" and has been shrink-wrapped onto foam board since it was purchased. The CoA and two marketing flyers are included with the print.I am helping a friend’s widow to liquidate a large collection of aviation prints.
There are nearly 400 prints by over 50 artists.
The artists include: Jerry Crandall, Jack Fellows, Keith Ferris, Roy Grinnell, Shigeo Koike, William S. Phillips, Mark Postlethwaite, Richard Taylor, Robert Taylor, Nicolas Trudgian and dozens of others.
Approximately 50 of the pieces are framed and the rest were shrink-wrapped on foam board by the Simpson Gallery in

My friend, Chuck, was a veteran and military historian.
He kept very detailed notes on many of these prints and that information will be included in the listing and will accompany each print after the sale.
I am not new to eBay selling but am new to selling and shipping prints.
I intend to remove prints from the shrink-wrap and ship them rolled in glassine paper.
The savings on shipping alone will save you enough to have the print shrink-wrapped again upon receipt.
If you would rather I ship the print on the foam board in a box, you must specifically request that.
I will calculate the shipping cost and invoice you.
Thank you for your interest and I hope some of Chuck’s art finds it’s way into your collection.
