Superb guaranteed 100% genuine ink hand signed King Edward VII informal group photograph of the King, members of his family and close friends taken at the Sandringham Estate during Christmas 1909.In 1862 Albert Edward, the Prince of Wales, later to become King Edward VII, purchased Sandringham House and 8,000 surrounding acres of land for his personal use, and being an avid hunter, he developed the estate into one of the finest hunting and shooting estates in England, and each Christmas he would invite members of his family and close friends to spend Christmas with him at Sandringham, and following his death, the tradition of the Royal Family spending Christmas at Sandringham has continued to the present day with Queen Elizabeth II.
At the bottom of the photograph, King Edward VII has ink hand signed ‘ Edward R & I ( Rex & Imperator ) which translates to Edward King & Emperor, along with his ink dating the year ‘ 1909 ‘.
King Edward’s party includes Queen Alexandra and several of their children including his son Prince George ( later King George V ) and his wife Princess Victoria Mary, Princess Louise, and several close friends and members of his Court including Alice Keppel his long time mistress, who coincidently was the Great Grandmother of Camilla Parker, who was the long time mistress ( now wife ) of Prince Charles, also included are Prince Alexander of Connaught, Charlotte Knollys, Georgina Elizabeth Countess Dowager of Dudley and others.
