Description
Hopefully this won't be too confusing :| but please read this description carefully before making a purchase :|This listing is for the purchase of one single-colored lot of 8 teeny glass magatama amulets-- not the oval seed-beads that've recently borrowed the name, but small lampworked glass beads in the distinctive "curved jewel" shape ascribed in Shinto lore to the necklace of the Japanese sun goddess Amaterasu.
Currently, eBay's listing format can't support both the "variations" feature and the "lot" setup, but each purchase really is for a same-colored lot of 8, not just one.
The entire lot of 8 magatama must all be the same single color/shade chosen from the fifteen listed below. (The group picture is missing one that I forgot until afterward.) Most of the colors are technically transparent, but some of them are so intensely-colored that they look almost black unless held directly against the light, and a few others tend to look cloudy because of air bubbles or the underlying texture of the glass.
Color list--
Four shades of green (dark emerald, light emerald, dark peridot, and light peridot)
Four shades of blue (dark cobalt, aqua-blue, medium denim-blue, and pale sky blue)
Two shades of yellow (light lemon-yellow and darker/cloudier sulfur-yellow)
Two shades of pink (pale peachy-pink and deep rose),
Three "single" colors (clear colorless, flame-red, and grape-purple)
Some additional notes about specific colors:
The two middle shades of blue are very close to each other-- in the pix, the medium denim-blue is directly beside the size-comparison US dime (~18mm diameter); it's slightly paler and cloudier than the aqua blue.
A lot of the dark emerald-greens have a narrow red streak down the side, probably because of funky oxidation chemistry.
The light peridot green isn't in the group picture, and its closeup only has five magatama instead of eight because even after I remembered it, I still couldn't find the main bag they're in.
Because these were handmade (not by me; I bought them this way), there's a fair amount of size variation; in general, the magatama are ~15-20mm long, although the two dark greens tend to be noticeably longer than the others. All of the boreholes are about 1mm across; you might be able to widen them a little bit by *gently* cleaning out some of the white bead-release with a damp pipe-cleaner (it's easier if you briefly soak the magatama in plain water beforehand), but the absolute maximum borehole width is probably still ~2mm or less.
The tips of their tails tend to be fragile; if caught on something, they may snap off and leave a small sharp edge. Because of this, I can't recommend using these for earrings. They're a safer bet for necklaces, esp. if worn pointing inward rather than outward. This is also why the shipping may seem a bit high-- I'll have to package these very carefully to prevent them from breaking in transit.
A final reminder-- please choose *one* color/shade for all 8 magatama in a single lot; e.g., 8 in dark cobalt blue, *not* 4 cobalts + 4 sky-blues. Of course, you can buy multiple lots of 8 that are different colors from each other :)
Please check out more of my other pretties, and thanks for looking!
