I have an album filled with old photos and U.S. Marine Corp. Orders and correspondence dating from 1918 and 1919.....pertaining to an Air Pilot by the name of Douglas Manning ... I believe this is the gentleman :
    Birth:
    Jul. 13, 1892
    Jackson
    Hinds County
    Mississippi, USA
    Death:
    May 14, 1920
    St. Bernard Parish
    Louisiana, USA
2nd Lieut. D. Manning, USMCR, was designated Naval Aviator #870 in 1918. Released from active service in 1919.
Died as result of a seaplane accident into Lake Borgne (drowned). No recovery of body was possible.
Married the former Miss Rowena W. Reynolds.
In July of 1917 Douglass Manning was one of a few Civil Aviation Instructors to report for duty at Wilbur Wright aviation field (Dayton Ohio) to train Aviators to fight against the Germans. "Five Standard and Two Curtiss machines have been assembled and with the mechanicians daily getting more of the planes in tune the spectacle of the flyers sailing over the city to and from the grounds will become a common one".
I will be listing other photos from this album over time - I would greatly appreciate any information anyone might have about 2nd Lieut. Douglass Manning.....many thanks !
This one shows what I believe to be an Aeromarine Airwasy Seaplane --
