    Description

Rare pressed tin ABC plate featuring the young Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.  This dates to their marriage in 1840.  It's 4.25 inches across and in mint condition--no holes, piercings, or breaks.  The reverse shows a rolled edge, the effects of superb tin pressing techniques, and it bears a faded label indicating the piece was once loaned for exhibition by Mr. & Mrs. Carl G. Befoe.  Lovely as found patina, front and back.
Among the most charming of antique children's plates are ABC plates--bowls or plates with the alphabet around the rim.  In Victorian times, children were often given food for thought along with their meals.  ABC plates were manufactured for the practical use of serving a child food and also to teach the child the alphabet.  Often the picture in the center presented a third area of education, such as religious instruction or pearls of wisdom concerning how to act.  Here, we have an image of very important news--HRH was married.
