    QUEEN MARGHERITA OF SAVOY
.  Beautiful late 19th century royal Italian silver circular box personally gifted by Queen Margherita of Savoy (1851-1926) to her close friend and famous musician Costanza Donita.  The box measures 4 by 2 inches, embossed with roses along the center, engraved with Donita’s name on the lid, contains an ivory lid holder, maker’s mark on the bottom, and in fine condition with only minor tarnishing.
BEAUTIFUL LATE 19TH CENTURY ROYAL ITALIAN SILVER BOX PERSONALLY GIFTED BY QUEEN MARGHERITA OF SAVOY TO HER CLOSE FRIEND AND FAMOUS MUSICIAN COSTANZA DONITA
Accompanied with a letter of authenticity from the Queen, handwritten and signed on her behalf by her Lady in Waiting Paola Pes di Villamarina (1838-1914), acknowledging the gift to Donita.  The letter is in Italian, one page on the Queen’s official letterhead, created in Rome on May 3, 1889, in overall fine condition, and accompanied with the envelope.
ACCOMPANIED WITH A LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY FROM THE QUEEN, HANDWRITTEN AND SIGNED ON HER BEHALF BY HER LADY IN WAITING PAOLA PES DI VILLAMARINA
Costanza Donita was a well-known American musician who studied and performed throughout Europe.  Her performances were very popular in the United States, France, and Italy, so much so she was invited to perform at the King and Queen’s residence at Quirinal Hill where she started her friendship with Queen Margherita.  We were unable to locate any personal gifts from the Italian royal family at auction in the past 25 years making the present box extremely rare and highly desirable.
