    Description

    The Crown of Baden is part of the Miniature Crown Jewel Collection created and designed by Nicholas & Susan Findeisen, the original owners of Crowns & Regalia, Ltd and is entirely hand made by skilled artists using the finest materials. Each piece is hand cast in high quality Pewter, then richly 22ct. Gold or Sterling Silver plated, hand polished, set with minute Austrian Crystal stones and/or hand enamelled and finished, and comes in its original box.
    History of the Original:
    The Grand Duchy of Baden was a historical state in the southwest of Germany, on the east bank of the Rhine. It existed between 1806 and 1918.
    Baden came into existence in the 12th century as the Margraviate of Baden and subsequently split into different lines, which were unified in 1771. In 1803 Baden was raised to Electoral dignity within the Holy Roman Empire. Baden became the much-enlarged Grand Duchy of Baden through the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, in 1815 it joined the German Confederation

    Marie Amelie Elisabeth Caroline of Baden, born in 1817, was the daughter of Charles, Grand Duke of Baden and, through him, was the great, great, great granddaughter of Jan Willem, Prince of Orange. One of Jan Willem’s great, great, great, great granddaughters was Queen Mary – the grandmother of our present Queen Elizabeth II. It’s this 17th century ruler of Holland who connects the current Royal Families of Great Britain and Monaco.
    In 1803 Napoleon conferred tje title of "Prince Elector" on the Margrave of Baden, who three years later declared himself to be a sovereign Prince, with the title - Grand Duke.
    Charles Frederick, the first holder of the title died in 1811 and was succeeded by his grandson - Charles, who received from Napoleon a set of crown jewels, including this crown.
